tangerine orange and white zig zag quilt

I don't know about you, but I was not that thrilled with Pantone's color for the year 2012 Tangerine Orange. I do like orange and like to pair it with grey and blue or green, but Pantone's shade seemed just a little too dark of an orange for me.

Lately, many fun and wonderfully creative quilts using tangerine orange started popping up all around the blogland . That got me thinking that maybe, just maybe I could give this color a try. I ordered Kona tangerine (for some reason I wanted to work with a solid color, no pattern) and this is what I came up with.

I decided to go simple and bold. I paired tangerine orange with white to achieve a crisp, modern look and I thought zig zags was just the right pattern for this color combo.

I used flannel in these pretty aqua and green daisies for the backing. I think they contrast the boldness of the zig zag very well.

I echo quilted around the zig zags, using white thread on white and orange on orange.

I finished the whole quilt  off using Kona slate for the binding. I do like how this quilt turned out. Definitely not the color I would have reached for as my first choice, but it was nice to get out of the box and try something new. How about you? Did you give tangerine orange a try? Are you going to? What 's your feeling about this saturated shade of orange?
