CEDAR TOTE (new pattern + video)
Hi friends, I’m excited to introduce my newest sewing pattern to you today.
CEDAR TOTE is a beginner-friendly bag, ideal for anyone just starting out in bagmaking, as well as for experienced sewists. It’s a wonderfully practical everyday tote that’s perfect for getting your creative gears turning.
This pattern comes in TWO SIZES. Both sizes feature a large exterior pocket for easy access to one’s essentials, and two sets of interior slip pockets to keep everything neatly organized.
Finished sizes (wide on the bottom x tall x deep): SMALL - 9'' x 8'' x 4'' ; LARGE - 11'' x 11'' x 6''.
The small size (photo above) can be used as a project bag or to carry just the essentials, while the large size is ideal for everyday errands or shopping, with plenty of space for whatever the day brings :).
Webbing handles and the addition of rivets and snap closure elevate this simple tote and make it the kind of bag you’ll reach for again and again.
I used 1’’ wide medium-weight cotton webbing for the handles and absolutely loved being able to match the webbing to the prints I used. I source all my webbing from Sullivan’s Trim, so check them out if you’re on the lookout for good quality webbing in many colors.
As for the snap closure at the top, I went with my trusty KAM snaps as well as these Clip-On Magnetic Snaps. This is the first time I tried the clip-on snaps, and I’m sold! I love their look and the ease of installation. All you need to do is center the snap along the finished top edge of the tote and use pliers to clip it in place. Easy peasy! I’ll definitely be using them in my future projects.
