MALMO POUCH (video tutorial + pattern update)
These stylish and versatile pouches come in two sizes and are great to be used as toiletry bags, project pouches, travel organizers, and so much more.
Finished size when folded (wide on the bottom x tall x deep): SMALL - 6'' x 5 ¾'' x 1 ½'' ; LARGE - 7 ¼'' x 7'' x 2''.
Malmo Pouch is a fully lined foldover pouch, with no raw or exposed edges. The design of this pouch includes a practical carrying handle, a convenient exterior slip pocket for quick access to essentials, and a secure main zipper closure. There’s also an additional button closure on the foldover flap to keep everything safely tucked inside.
The Malmo Pouch pattern provides instructions on how to use either a metal zipper (pictured above) or a zipper by the foot. Both of these options are neatly finished with the addition of fabric end tabs for a beautiful, professional look. Check out Sullivans Trim website if you’re searching for good quality zippers. They carry both metal zippers and zippers by the foot with a variety of colors and designs, you won’t be disappointed.
I used Essex Linen for the bottom parts of my pouches, and designer quilting cotton for the flaps, zipper tabs, and the lining. As usual, I went with my favorite Pellon SF101 interfacing for both exterior and lining panels to add a bit more structure to the finished pouch.
As for the button loop closure, I used 1/8’’ leather lace, but 1/8’’ - 1/4’’ wide ribbon of choice would work just as well. I added the same leather lace to my zipper for a stylish, convenient zipper pull.
This is a beginner friendly sewing pattern, and to help you along I recorded a video tutorial showing how to sew this pouch from beginning to end.
Thanks for stopping by, friends! And happy sewing!
